London Coaches Program – Paid Coaching Opportunities for LCP coaches
The London Coaches Programme (LCP) is a partnership initiative funded by the Mayor of London and the National Basketball Association (NBA), and delivered by Basketball England.
The programme was initially implemented over three years (2023–2026) with the aim of establishing a structured network of development, training, and delivery opportunities for 500 new community coaches aged 16 to 30.
Following its success, the programme has been extended for a further three years (2026–2029) with a refreshed design. The LCP will continue to support the qualification of new coaches across London, with a new cohort commencing each September.
As part of this new phase, the programme will introduce paid coaching opportunities for individuals who are, or have been, part of the LCP.
In addition to supporting clubs, LCP coaches appointed as assistant coaches will receive further development opportunities through the programme, including:
- Basketball England coaching licence
- Level 2 Club Award qualification
NBA Court Time – Partnership with the GLL
NBA Court Time is a community basketball programme delivered by GLL in partnership with the NBA and Basketball England. The sessions are led by LCP coaches and are designed to be fun, safe, and inclusive, welcoming young Londoners of all abilities in two age groups: 5–10 years and 11–15 years.
LCP coaches are hired by GLL and receive monthly payments based on the number of sessions delivered.
Sessions take place on designated days at the following venues:
- Britannia Leisure Centre (Hackney): Fridays and Sundays
- King's Cross Fitness (Camden): Fridays and Sundays
- Southbury Leisure Centre (Enfield): Wednesdays and Sundays
- Newham Leisure Centre (Newham): Thursdays and Sundays
- Woolwich Waves (Greenwich): Mondays and Saturdays
- Botwell Green Sports and Leisure Centre (Hillingdon): Tuesdays and Saturdays
To participate in the programme and deliver NBA Court Time sessions, LCP coaches are required to meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Qualification: Must have completed the Community Coach Award.
- Licensing: Must hold an active Basketball England coaching licence (funded by the LCP).

LCP Club Financial Support
The LCP Financial Support programme will fund assistant coach positions for selected clubs across London. In the first year of the programme, the LCP management team will select 10 clubs to benefit from this funding. The list of selected clubs will be announced in August.
The assistant coach roles will be filled by LCP coaches, reinforcing the programme’s commitment to developing local coaching talent and strengthening its ties with the wider basketball community.
- Funding period: September 2026 to June 2027
- Allocation: 1 LCP assistant coach per club
- Sessions covered: Up to 4 sessions per week
LCP coaches must meet the following eligibility criteria to apply for the LCP Club Financial Support Pathway:
- Qualification: Must have completed the Community Coach Award.
- Licensing: Must hold an active Basketball England coaching licence (funded by the LCP).
Selected London clubs will have access to the pool of applicants and will be able to contact the LCP coaches whose skills, experience, and availability best meet their requirements. The LCP Management Team will provide support to London clubs throughout the recruitment process.

BE Apprenticeship Programme
The BE Apprenticeship Programme is a paid development opportunity offered through the LCP. The successful candidate will join the BE team for a 12-month placement, gaining valuable experience and learning from a range of departments across the organisation.
To be eligible for this opportunity, LCP coaches must meet the following criteria:
- Qualification: Have completed the Community Coach Award.
- Licensing: Hold a current and active Basketball England coaching licence (funded through the LCP).
The 12-month apprenticeship will be structured into three development cycles, during which the successful candidate will rotate across the Talent and Participation teams, gaining exposure to different areas of BE’s work.
Coaching development will form a key component of the programme. As part of this commitment, the apprentice will play an active role in the BE Aspire Programme, supporting the London Region team while further developing their own coaching knowledge, skills, and experience.

BE Aspire Programme
The Aspire Programme is designed to provide high-quality coaching and development opportunities for young players, aligned with Basketball England’s Player Development Framework and the Aspire curriculum.
The programme operates through a camp-based delivery model across newly established super-regions, supporting talented players aged 11–15 years. London is one of the regions in which the programme is delivered.

As part of the LCP Paid Coaching Pathways, the Aspire Programme will recruit LCP coaches to support the delivery of programme activities throughout the season. Successful applicants will be expected to attend all scheduled coaching sessions and relevant programme events.

- Qualification: Have completed the Community Coach Award.
- Licensing: Hold a current and active Basketball England coaching licence (funded through the LCP).
