In the most crucial matchup in the NBL's top flight this weekend, outside of the title race, Barking Abbey picked up the win they needed on their home floor - securing Division One status for next season behind a strong defensive effort. A cagey start saw both sides trading baskets, as Team Newcastle edged ahead. The early 7-8 advantage would turn out to be the visitors final lead of the contest, as the Crusaders unleashed a 13-2 run to take control as Coach Lloyd Gardner's squad never looked back - despite comeback attempts from the North East side. Newcastle cut the deficit to a single point midway through the second, but the hosts rallied to lead by 10 at the half-time interval. Again, a strong run either side of the third quarter break by the road team cut things to a two point gap - but steady play down the stretch saw Barking secure the points they needed to stay up after a tumultuous campaign. Meanwhile, Team Newcastle will join fellow Northern side Manchester Magic in making the drop down to Division Two for next season as Coach Ian Hewitt looks to retool his squad in hopes of repeating their promotion success from 2016/17.
The Crusaders' crucial victory was paced by 17 points, three rebounds and two assists from Chris Feeney, as the Scottish knocked down four triples on the night. Ade Adebayo added a double-double of 13 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, while Spyridon Kapsalos finished with 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and four steals. Nathaniel Powell came off the bench to chip in 10 points and five rebounds, while fellow big man Theo Hughes had eight points and eight rebounds. Tosan Evbuomwan led Newcastle with 16 points, three rebounds and two assists, while Fran Urli came off the bench for 14 points, six rebounds and two assists. Onyekachi Nzerem chipped in 12 points, five rebounds and four steals, while Eric Stafford rounded out the double digit scorers with 11 points, three rebounds and two assists.

Loughborough Riders 84 v 81 Reading Rockets

Loughborough opened up their home back-to-back with a thriller at the Sir David Wallace Sports Hall, in a highly exciting comeback win that came right down to the final shot. A strong start saw the visiting Rockets take the lead, as the Berkshire-based side established their dominance early and often to lead by double digits at numerous points through the first three quarters. However, the Riders kicked off the fourth with an 8-0 that slashed an 11 point lead down to just three, before another 9-0 run that gave Loughborough their first lead of the contest at 77-76 with 1:45 to play. Sydney Donaldson responded at the foul line to retake the lead for Reading, before Niall Harris split a pair at the stripe to even things up at 78-78.
With AJ Carr coming up empty in the post on the next possession, play came down the other end to set up Alex Roberts for a dagger triple that gave the Riders a 81-78 advantage with just 40 ticks left. After a Coach Alan Keane timeout, the Rockets failed to execute as Trae Pemberton coughed up a turnover that led to Roberts heading to the line to ice the game. After knocking down both for a 83-78 edge, young Rockets guard David Chive extended the game with a triple to make it 83-81, but Lucien Christofis made it a three point cushion by splitting his pair at the free throw line. With no timeouts remaining, Pemberton could only get up a prayer with seconds remaining, a prayer which was not answered as the Riders took the spoils - much to the delight of their home crowd.
The thrilling victory for the hosts was led by 25 points, six rebounds, seven assists and four steals from Lucien Cristofis, while Alex Roberts finished with 19 points, four rebounds and two assists in addition to his clutch shooting. Big man Hosana Kitenge chipped in a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds, while skipper Jonas Dieterich rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points and three rebounds. Niall Harris finished with seven points and four rebounds off the bench, while Reis Pinnock pulled down 11 rebounds to go with five points, four assists and two steals. The Rockets got 59 of their 81 points from their three big names, with AJ Carr leading the way with 22 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Sydney Donaldson added 21 points, five rebounds and two steals, while US import guard Trae Pemberton finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

Nottingham McDonalds Hoods 69 v 77 Leicester Warriors

Leicester Warriors picked up a come from behind road win on Saturday evening to further solidify the eighth spot, while simultaneously ending the Hoods' playoff hopes for this campaign. It was the hosts who led early in this one, building a narrow five point advantage as the first quarter went on. However, an 11-0 run from Leicester midway through the second snatched the lead as the Warriors would not be caught the rest of the way. With Coach Karl Brown's side looking comfortable with a 16 point cushion at 54-70, Nottingham unleashed a 15-3 run to get right back in it at 69-73 - but the hosts came up empty on their final possessions, while the Warriors closed out the game at the foul line. A 12-13 record on the season sees Leicester clinging to the eighth spot as things stand, but Hemel hold the crucial head-to-head - meaning the race for the final playoff spot will go right down to the final games of the season when Leicester host Loughborough and Hemel welcome Derby.
The Warriors' important victory was paced by Taylor Johnson's 22 points and two rebounds, while Alex Wilson came off the bench to knock down three triples en route to 14 points. Pak Chingombe added 13 points and three rebounds, while captain Carl Pearson finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Lamin Willan was perfect from the field off the bench to chip in nine points, while big man Elhji Jabby contributed eight points with a similarly efficient shooting performance. David Watts led Nottingham with 19 points, two assists and two blocks, shooting 5-7 from behind the arc, while Cole Welle had 13 points and five rebounds. Delaney Powell finished with 13 points of his own to go with two rebounds, the only other double digit contributor in the Hoods' low scoring performance.

Manchester Magic 74 v 92 Hemel Storm

Manchester Magic played out their final home game in NBL Division One with another tough loss, this time falling to Hemel who keep their playoff hopes alive by improving to 11-14 on the year. The hosts actually led by five points early on in this one, but a 14-0 gave the Storm control as they wouldn't trail from that point onwards. With a seven point cushion after the first stanza, Hemel were held much tighter in the second, only extending their advantage to eight points by the half-time interval. Another strong spurt after the half saw Hemel grow their lead to 20+ points for the first time, as the visitors cruised to an important win down the stretch. Having completed their home schedule, the Magic will close out their tough season on the road at Reading next weekend, hoping to recreate their early season National Cup success over the Rockets. Meanwhile, the win sees Hemel keep their chances at post-season play alive, and they can book their spot in the playoffs with a win over Derby next weekend if either Essex or Leicester fail to pick up any more points this season - seeing as the Storm hold the crucial head-to-head advantages over both clubs.
TrayVonn Wright had an impressive display of 27 points, 10 rebounds, five steals and two blocks to lead Hemel, while Blayne Freckleton added 24 points, three rebounds and two assists, having knocked down four triples. Bode Adeluola chipped in 12 points, eight assists and two steals, while captain Tom Adorian contributed 10 points and five rebounds. Will Ashby came off the bench for nine points, two rebounds and two assists, while Levi Noel finished just short of a triple-double with six points, 13 rebounds, nine assists and four steals. Strong inside play from the Magic saw them led by 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals off the bench from skipper Danny Pilkington, while they got 14 points, eight rebounds and eight assists from Richard Bell. Ryan Lewis added 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while US import big man Jonathan Barnes chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds.

The late games began with Worthing taking down Derby to add to their impressive win streak, keeping the title race going right into the final weekend of the NBL Division One season. A narrow win at the Clarence Wiggins Sports Centre saw numerous lead changes in a game that swung back-and-forth throughout, with the two teams separated by just two points at the half. Derby went on to lead for much of the third quarter, until a 7-0 run by the visitors gave them the edge heading into the fourth. The Blazers responded with a 7-0 run of their own to get the final stanza started, and Coach Matt Shaw's side would lead until the 3:46 mark when Alex Owumi started a 9-2 run that gave Worthing a crucial 83-88 lead down the stretch. Jake Wesselingh cut it to two with a triple, before Zaire Taylor and Oli Stanley traded buckets at the rim. Back-to-back scores from Jorge Ebanks and Taylor extended the Thunder lead to 88-94 with 30 seconds to play, and when Kayne King split a pair at the line he opened the door for Tom Ward to ice the win with two clutch makes from the foul line.
Alex Owumi knocked down seven triples on the night to lead Worthing with 28 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, while fellow US import guard Zaire Taylor finished with 22 points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals. Jorge Ebanks had 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals, while Tom Ward added 14 points, two rebounds, five assists and two steals. Captain Brendan Okoronkwo rounded out the double digit contributors for Coach Josh Goddard as he contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals. A trio of 18 point scorers paced the Blazers in this one, as Tre-Shawn Wilford led the way with a double-double of 18 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and five steals. An efficient performance saw Oli Stanley go 8-9 from the field on his way to 18 points and nine rebounds, while Isa Brandon had 18 points and nine rebounds of his own to go with three assists. Jake Wesselingh knocked down four triples to chip in 12 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Kayne King rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points, two rebounds and eight assists.

Team Solent Kestrels closed out Saturday evening's schedule at Places Leisure Eastleigh by picking up the penultimate result they need to clinch the league title with an impressive second half against Bradford. An evenly contested first quarter saw the two teams tied after 10 minutes, with the lead having changing hands in the early going. After a low-scoring first quarter, the Kestrels kept up their defensive effort while beginning to assert their dominance on the offensive end, pulling away to lead by double digits at points in the second stanza. A continued defensive focus allowed the lead to grow to 20+ points by the end of the third, while Team Solent kept pulling away in the fourth as they completed a dominant performance to improve to to 21-4. The victory leaves the league title down to two results next weekend - if Team Solent can pick up points on the road at Essex then it's over, but similarly if Worthing drop points on Saturday away at Thames Valley then the Kestrels will be secured the regular season championship for the this campaign.
US import forward Travis Charles led Team Solent with 27 points and eight rebounds, while fellow import Herm Senor II supported with a near triple-double of 17 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds and two steals. Nick Lewis came off the bench to add 11 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals, while captain Louie Kirkman finished with eight points and five rebounds. Rafael Saipe knocked down four three-pointers to lead Bradford with 25 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Ricky Fetske was the only other double digit scorer with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Rihards Sulcs was limited to just nine points and eight rebounds and two steals as the only other major contributor for Coach Chris Mellor's side.

Essex missed out on a chance to secure their spot in the post-season when they dropped this one on their home floor against the Cavaliers, while Thames Valley grabbed a result that goes some way to solidifying their top four position. The visiting Cavaliers led from tip to buzzer in this one, maintaining control despite the narrow final scoreline. Thames Valley didn't have things all their own way however, as a double figure lead that they built as early as the second stanza was cut back to single digits numerous times, especially down the stretch when back-to-back triples from Findlay Wood and Rory Winter made it a two point game. Leading just 78-80, Abdoulaye Sylla went on a five point personal run to make it 78-85, before Lee Hodges responded to cut it to 80-85 with 1:36 remaining. A crucial scoreless spell by the Big Cats saw their next points on the board with 29 ticks left, when Hodges responded to a Prince Lartey free throw with a big dunk that cut the deficit to 82-86. However, Lartey and Martelle McLemore held their nerve at the line to extend the gap to 82-90, before Tom Child got a desperation triple to go on the final possession.
Martelle McLemore led the Cavaliers' victory with 29 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Abdoulaye Sylla supported with 21 points, six rebounds and four steals. Prince Lartey finished with 18 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Bernard Hehetro came off the bench for a near double-double of nine points and nine rebounds. Big man Lee Hodges paced the Leopards with 22 points, 13 points and two blocks, while Chuck Duru finished with 15 points, four rebounds and two assists. US import forward chipped in 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals after a rough shooting afternoon, while captain Sam Newman had a double-double of 10 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. Sunday's NBL Division One action continued with a high-scoring encounter in the East Midlands that saw Loughborough complete their home double-header with another crucial win in their plight for the third spot. An explosive first quarter saw the Riders with the early advantage, leading by as many as 12 points midway through the period. Hemel found their scoring touch late in the quarter to tie things up at 33-33, with both sides setting their stall out with impressive offensive displays thus far. The Storm would lead throughout the second stanzas, before putting just 12 points on the board in the third quarter that allowed Loughborough back into the contest. With 5:16 remaining, Blayne Freckleton cut the Riders' advantage to a single point with a triple, before a confident 8-1 run gave Loughborough the edge heading into the final two minutes. Another Freckleton make from down-town made it 92-87 with 0:42 on the clock, but Lucien Cristofis went four-for-four from the foul line in the closing stages to maintain the Riders' lead down the stretch.

Reading Rockets 77 v 80 Team Newcastle

Having both taken crucially losses on Saturday, it was Team Newcastle who rebounded better to close out their weekend road double-header with a victory at the 'Mead. Despite the lead changing hands in the early going, it was Reading who settled into the advantage with a five point cushion at the end of the first. The Rockets would continue to hold their narrow lead throughout the second and third stanzas, heading into the final 10 minutes with a six point edge. However, the fourth quarter saw Team Newcastle find third rhythm on both ends as they held Reading to just 11 points in the quarter while putting 20 of their own on the board to take the lead in the final stages. Despite this impressive road win, Team Newcastle's fate was sealed on Saturday with their loss on the road against Barking Abbey, while the double-header of losses for Reading hurts their cause as they jostle for playoff seeding down the stretch.
The comeback victory saw Newcastle led by 29 points from Onyekachi Nzerem, while Eric Stafford added 11 points and Tosan Evbuomwan chipped in 10 points. AJ Carr was on form for Reading as he paced their effort with 20 points, while Sydney Donaldson had 13 points and Danny Carter finished 12 points in his penultimate outing in front of the loyal Rockets' fans at Rivermead.

Bristol Academy Flyers 20 v 0 Loughborough Riders

In shocking news that broke on Saturday morning, Loughborough Riders forfeited their scheduled road game at Bristol Academy Flyers. The default win for the Flyers meant that the league title is headed to Bristol this season, with the South West side topping the standings with a 15-3 record. After a third place finish a season ago, Coach Gareth Till retooled his squad with the key additions of Cristina Bigica and Flo Ward, alongside a cast of vital returning parts that included dynamic scoring back-court Mai Zilbeti ad Liisa Juul.
The league conquering campaign actually saw Bristol fall at the first hurdle, with an opening day loss on the road at Barking, before they reeled off a run of eight games unbeaten. Ipswich were the next side to topple the eventual champions, before Anglia Ruskin picked up a key narrow win in February that swung the head-to-head and set up the exciting climax to the regular season. The Flyers will now enter the post-season as the first seed in the WNBL Division One playoffs, with the their opposition confirmed as Barking Abbey following Sevenoaks' loss to Reading on Saturday evening.

A dominant victory for Reading on their home floor on Saturday evening kept their hopes of a top four four finish alive, while simultaneously booking a post-season spot for Barking Abbey. The Rockets opened their home back-to-back with a convincing performance that saw them lead from tip to buzzer, establishing their lead with a 27-6 first quarter and never looking back. The young Suns squad would have improved offensive outputs in the second and third stanzas, but a final period which saw them put just five points on the board had the Rockets growing their lead right up to the closing moments. The win gets Reading back to .500 for the season, with an 8-8 record and two games to catch Loughborough for fourth - starting with a crucial matchup with the Riders on Sunday. Meanwhile, Sevenoaks didn't get the win they needed to extend their season into April, meaning Barking Abbey top the three-way mini-league that decides 8th-10th while the Kent-based squad finish just six points short of playoff basketball.
Reading were led by 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals from Monica Herranz De Antonio, while Maria Angeles Valdeolmillos Gomez supported with 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and six steals. Andrea Gomez De La Vara added 13 points, six rebounds, eight assists and three steals, while Gabriela Sanchez Parodi Reveron came off the bench to chip in 13 points, three rebounds and six assists. Reading completed their home double-header with another victory, as a packed house at the 'Mead saw the Rockets take down the visiting Riders in a crucial matchup in the race for fourth place. In a much tougher contest than their rout of Sevenoaks on Saturday evening, it was the Rockets who fell behind early in this one, but quickly rallied as the lead changed hands numerous times throughout the game. Down by one, Reading went on an 8-0 run late in third quarter to take back the lead for good, able to hold off late comeback attempts by the young Riders' squad. The victory sees the Rockets improve to 9-8 on the season, while Loughborough end their campaign with a 10-8 mark. With Reading holding the head-to-head after two wins against the Riders over the last two weekend, the Rockets just need to grab a home win over Team Solent next weekend to snatch fourth place and book in playoff basketball in Berkshire this April.

Carmen Segura Moreno provided a spark off the bench with 12 points, six rebounds and two assists, while Noa Sanchez Marques was also a crucial reserve as she finish with eight points, three rebounds and three steals. Greenwich Titans pinched an impressive upset victory on Saturday to kick off the NBL Division Two weekend, improving to 6-13 to hold the eighth spot momentarily - until London Westside's win later on in the day and Derbyshire's victory on Sunday. The Titans' triumph over the league's third ranked side began with the visitors taking an early six point lead in a close contest that was never separated by more than seven points. However, a 15-2 run that spanned the first quarter break swung the momentum in the hosts' favour, before the two sides entered the half-time break separated by a single point. United would recover to hold the lead for the majority of the second half, until the exciting closing stages of the game.
United held a four point lead with 2:26 on the clock, courtesy of two Dovydas Rudik free throws, before an and-one from Robert Gellatly cut the deficit to a single point. Yonathan Napoleon then went to the foul line on back-to-back possessions, converting three of four at the stripe, to give United a 66-70 lead with just 57 seconds remaining. Carl Williams responded with lay-in to cut the lead in half, before a crucial Modestas Krasauskas turnover allowed Yassine Bouraidah to convert on the break to tie things up at 70-70. Bouraidah also drew a whistle after contact from Matthew Edwards, much to the dismay of the United bench who were awarded a bench technical foul. Arturo Noha-Pascual knocked down the technical free throw, before Bouraidah converted his and-one to give Greenwich the 72-70 edge. Both Rudik and Edwards had looks on the final possession for the visitors, but came up empty as the Titans held on for an important win.

Westminster Warriors clinched the NBL Division Two runners-up position with their high-scoring victory over Myerscough College, returning to winning ways in their penultimate regular season game on their home floor. The hosts picked up a narrow lead early in the second stanza, but didn't have things all their own way when Myerscough unleashed a 17-2 run to take a lead of their own. The visitors would then lead for the majority of the rest of the contest, until a 17-4 run that spanned the third quarter break gave Westminster control down the stretch. A triple from Bradley Kaboza cut the deficit to a single point, 84-83 with 2:49 on the clock, before a 12-2 run closed out the game for the Warriors. Callan Low made the final possession count for the visitors when he knocked down a mid-range jumper, but the game had already gotten away from the Lancashire-based side.
Johnathan Lashley exploded for 30 points in 25 minutes off the bench to lead the Warriors, while adding eight rebounds and two assists, supported by Juan Manning's 22 points and three rebounds, on 9-11 shooting. Justin Hitchman added 17 points on 6-10 shooting, while Mantas Adomaitis finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Callan Low paced Myerscough with 17 points, nine rebounds and three assists, while Amari Williams added 14 points and six rebounds. Rayon Brown came off the bench for 12 points, two assists and three steals, while Bradley Kaboza chipped in nine points on 3-4 shooting.

London Westside 85 v 72 East London All Stars

London Westside picked up a crucial victory in their plight to make the post-season, coming back after an early deficit to lead for the majority of the contest. Westside had a five point edge four minutes into the contest, but after a slow start East London reeled off an 18-6 run to lead at the end of the first. Westside composed themselves to begin the second stanza as they scored 12 points unanswered, before trading leads later in the period. Having ended the first half well to snatch a four point cushion, a lead they would hold for the rest of the contest, Westside took control despite a late surge from their visitors. A lay-up from Aaron Badibo saw the All Stars cut the lead to just two points at 71-69 with 4:24 remaining, but Westside went 14-0 over the final stretch to clinch the result.
Santiago Leon paced Westside with 21 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, while Donald Morris supported with 20 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Abiodun Adedo chipped in 13 points and three rebounds, while Mansour Mbye contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Levi Edwards finished with 10 points and four rebounds, while Jost Peterca had nine points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. East London were led by 24 points, three rebounds, three assists and five steals from Jonathan James, while Aaron Badibo added 14 points and six rebounds. Brian Nguru offered 13 points and three rebounds, while Kyle Gouveia chipped in 11 points, four rebounds and four assists.

London Greenhouse Pioneers 100 v 67 Ipswich

Sunday's action in NBL Division Two got underway with a lop-sided victory for the Pioneers, as the hosts found their form after an even start to the contest. Ipswich held a narrow lead for much of the first quarter, before a sharp run to start the second gave Greenhouse an advantage of their own. Another strong spurt to end the half saw the hosts leading by 13 at the half, and they never looked back - pouring in 32 points in the third quarter. With a 29 point advantage heading into the final stanza, the game was over as a contest, and the Pioneers continued to pile on the points to lead by as many as 40 with around two minutes to play.
The dominant victory for the hosts was led by Theo Deleligne's 27 points, 15 rebounds and four assists, as he was supported by Teni Mango with 16 points, two rebounds and four assists. Timi Tinubu came off the bench for 14 points and five rebounds, while Kyle Diaz added 11 points, four rebounds and two assists. Francesco Rinaldi came off the bench for 11 points of his own, to go with three steals, while Mbombo Yebga finished with seven points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Veron Eze paced Ipswich with 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks, while Rabi Rai added 11 points and three rebounds. Jed Robinson knocked down three triples to also finish on 11 points, while Marvin Isebor came off the bench to chip in seven points and three rebounds.
Derbyshire Arrows 85 v 77 Sussex Bears

Derbyshire Arrows grabbed a surprising victory to round out the NBL Division Two weekend on Sunday evening when their explosive second quarter clinched a win over a tough top five opposition. The Bears led early on in this one, getting out to a 15 point advantage by the time the first quarter came to a close. However, the Arrows weren't down and out just yet, unleashing a dominant 30-9 second period to swing the game on its head - the hosts taking a six point lead into the half. After their commanding second stanza effort, the home side led the rest of the way, despite numerous attempts from Sussex to cut into the deficit. Cordaris Townes cut the gap to 79-75 with a triple when 1:28 remained in the game, but Joseph Baugh came down the other end and converted a crucial and-one to clinch the result - before Matt Wilson and George Brownell held their nerve at the foul line in the dying moments.
Joseph Baugh shot 13-25 on his way to 33 points to lead all scorers, adding nine rebounds and two assists, while Callum McKenzie supported with 14 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals. Matt Wilson just missed out on a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, while George Brownell came off the bench to also finish on 10 points, to go with three rebounds. Tomas Seduikis led the Bears with 25 points and six rebounds, while Cordaris Townes offered support with 23 points and six rebounds. Joe Carter came off the bench to add 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Bradley Bennett finished with eight points and three rebounds.
