2026/27 Pre-Season Officiating Information

Get ready for the new season

Ahead of the new season and upcoming rule changes, officials should take part in our pre-season education where we will host a online sessions plus the usual Regional Officiating Conference tour around the country.

On this page you can find information about the pre-season rules and fitness tests which are required for certain levels of officiating.

Online Officiating Conferences

We will host online sessions for referees, table officials and statisticians in the first week of September to help introduce the new season's rules and set the scene for the upcoming campaign.

 

Regional Officiating Conferences

Details of this year’s Regional Officiating Conferences (ROCs) for both referees and table officials can be found below.

There are 11 sessions taking place across the country, providing officials with key information and updates ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Content will include the new FIBA rules, officiating mechanics and points of emphasis for the upcoming season.

Rules Test

Referees, table officials and statisticians will complete their pre-season rules test through Learning Nexus.

This is a requirement for referees who wish to receive appointments in the NBL (NBL1, WNBL1, NBL2 and WNBL2), and for table officials and statisticians who wish to receive NBL finals appointments.

Practice tests are available in Learning Nexus, where you will receive 25 questions from a bank of approximately 100 questions.

At the end of each practice test, you will be given your score along with the correct answer to the questions. You are able to practice the test as many times as you like.

The practice window is currently open and closes on Wednesday 26 August.

 

Fitness Test (Referees)

To receive appointments in the NBL (NBL1, WNBL1, NBL2 and WNBL2) referees are expected to complete the pre-season fitness test. Failure to complete the test, or meet the required standard, will lead to restricted appointments.

Referees can complete the fitness test either at one of the ROCs, or by submitting a video on Learning Nexus.

Requirements for video recording of fitness test

Referees who wish to operate in NBL1 and WNBL1 should achieve a minimum of 66 laps (8 minutes) on the fitness test.

Referees who wish to operate in NBL2 and WNBL2 should achieve a minimum of 56 laps (7 minutes) on the fitness test.

To sign up to the pre-season conferences and to take part in the tests (including uploading videos of fitness tests), officials need access to the 'Pre-Season Officiating 2026' section in Learning Nexus. Use the button below to register for access.

Once registered, you will receive an email from [email protected]. If you are new to Learning Nexus, you will be sent login details. This email will be sent no later than the next working day after you sign up.

If you already have a Learning Nexus account, but do not receive the email, please check your spam folder or alternatively go to Learning Nexus and sign in. Your username begins with 'a' and is followed by 6 numbers.

If you have forgotten your username or password, you can use the 'Trouble Signing In' option to recover these.
