BE Awards 2025: Anne Pitman and Pauline Prior Community Club of the Year
Barrow Thorns is the winner of the 2025 Anne Pitman and Pauline Prior Community Club of the Year award.
Barrow Thorns have continued to demonstrate an outstanding commitment to growing basketball within their local area and creating opportunities for players of all ages and abilities.
Despite geographical challenges that can sometimes make competition and travel difficult, the club has successfully built a thriving basketball environment that supports boys, girls and community participation programmes.
Their work extends beyond player development and also focuses on creating pathways for coaches, officials and volunteers to become actively involved in the sport.
The club's dedication to inclusivity and long-term development has helped establish basketball as an important part of the local community, ensuring that opportunities remain available for future generations of players.
Basketball England's Participation Programmes and Local Development Manager, Nick Holloway, said:
"Barrow is at least 90 minutes away from their next closest club in the North West, but that hasn't stopped them from forging an important role in the area's basketball scene.
"More impressively, they have also created self-sustainable pathways for competition and development that continue to bear fruit for anyone involved.
"Their community offering is highly impressive, and they remain a shining example of club activity. Well done to the Thorns!"
Barrow's recognition continues a 10-day period where national recipients of the 2025 Basketball England Awards will be announced, covering work from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025.
Winners from across BE's 10 regions were announced across April and May, with those recipients then shortlisted to narrow down the field for each national winner.
Only one award remains, the Bev Guymon Inspiring Female of the Year award, leading up to another cohort of selections being celebrated with their 'Services to Basketball' awards at 7pm on Wednesday, 1 July 2026.
