BE Awards 2025: Local League Provider of the Year

A national leader on PlayHQ and an early adopter of BE's new platform when it was introduced, the YBL has over 2,600 Basketball England members across 50 different competitions.

With so much activity to have over 90% of games live scored is an unbelievable effort.

The YBL expanded in recent times to not solely provide leagues in the West Midlands region but to provide competition as far south as Gloucestershire, Abingdon and Oxfordshire, and in the East Northampton, Swadlincote and Kettering to name a few. 

The YBL has also supported its players, coaches, clubs and officials with courses, mentoring, education and funding. 

Basketball England's Participation Programmes and Local Development Manager, Nick Holloway, said:

"Leagues like the YBL are the backbone of the sport in this country, providing an invaluable competitive outlet for so many players in the West Midlands and beyond.

"They also received a grant through the Sport England Movement Fund, where they put young females through officiating courses, continuing their reputation as an organisation committed to upskilling their members.

"With an incredible number of participants and array of competitions on offer, this award is richly deserved."

The YBL's recognition continues a ten-day period where national recipients of the 2025 Basketball England Awards will be announced, covering work from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025.

Winners from across BE's ten regions were announced across April and May, with those recipients then shortlisted to narrow down the field for each national winner.

The YBL and others will be recognised for their achievements over the coming days, leading up to another cohort of selections being celebrated with their "Services to Basketball" awards on Wednesday, 1 July 2026.
