BE Awards 2025: Slam Jam Delivery Provider of the Year

In Portsmouth, the Slam Jam programme has become a thriving, high-impact weekly initiative, led by Coach Moustafa and built on consistent energy, commitment and a clear focus on providing positive experiences for young people.

The programme has seen significant growth and engagement, including 107 registrations last year - making it the largest Slam Jam programme in England while highlighting the exceptional reach and impact achieved.

Through this work, Slam Jam has become a key entry point into the sport across the city, building enjoyment, confidence, and a lasting connection to basketball for hundreds of young people.

Basketball England's Participation Programmes and Local Development Manager, Nick Holloway, said:

"Firstly, a huge congratulations to Portsmouth City Basketball Club for their continued work in the game and a richly-deserved award.

"The club's Slam Jam sessions are delivered in a way that is fun, inclusive, and community focused, fully reflecting the ethos of the Slam Jam programme.

"The environment created ensures every child feels welcome, confident, and able to enjoy their first steps in basketball.

"It is great to see such a strong advocate for our Slam Jam programme and what it can provide." 

Slam Jam is packed with fun basketball games, rewards and gives children a great way to learn the basic skills of the game.

Aimed at children aged five to 11 years old, the programme is designed to provide a great first experience to the sport in a fun, safe and engaging atmosphere. Slam Jam not only focuses on basketball related activity, but it also aims to improve the physical literacy and fundamentals of movement for all participants. 

Sessions can be delivered over six weeks as part of PE lessons or after school clubs, as well as within a club or community setting.

Portsmouth City's recognition begins a ten-day period where national recipients of the 2025 Basketball England Awards will be announced, covering work from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025.

Winners from across BE's ten regions were announced across April and May, with those recipients then shortlisted to narrow down the field for each national winner.

Portsmouth City and others will be recognised for their achievements over the coming days, leading up to another cohort of selections being celebrated with their "Services to Basketball" awards on Wednesday, 1 July 2026.
