England U18s 3x3 squads return to Loughborough for national schools comp
Six England 3x3 teams are heading to Loughborough to play in the School Games National Finals from the 3-6 September.
Hosted at Loughborough University, three England Men’s and three England Women’s squads will be competing in the U18s running basketball tournament facing Ireland, Scotland and Wales. There will also be an equivalent tournament for wheelchair basketball athletes.
The School Games National Finals is a biennial four-day multisport event for some of the most talented school-age athletes.
The event is run by the Youth Sport Trust and is funded by Sport England via the National Lottery and is backed by all the Home Country Sports Councils and UK Sport.
This summer, the England senior men’s 3x3 team made history winning back-to-back gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. One of the squad’s stars Ashley Hamilton will be in Loughborough to welcome the 3x3 athletes and inspire them as they take to the court for their competition.
The competition format for both men and women sees the teams split into two pools, A and B. The pool winners go straight to the semi-final stage, with the second and third place teams playing in the quarter-finals, the winners of which take the remaining semi-final spots. There are also placing games to determine 3rd-6th place.
3x3 made its debut at the School Games National Finals in 2024, where England picked up two silver medals and a bronze.
