Progress and new identity for Great Britain Basketball

The Interim GB Delivery Group, which is made up of senior representatives from across British basketball to support the Great Britain 5v5 and 3x3 programmes, has completed the first stage of its commitments to funders UK Sport and Sport England and world governing body FIBA by establishing a project plan for consultation and a roadmap to a new governance structure for the sport.

Consultation of stakeholders across the British basketball community is under way, with the process due to be completed by the end of March 2027.

The Delivery Group, chaired by Paul Blake, owner of Newcastle Eagles, and made up of representatives of Basketball England, Basketball Scotland, Basketball Wales, Super League Basketball and British Championship Basketball, has worked effectively to set a trajectory towards a new way of governing the game and supporting the national teams.

During the period of the Interim Group’s existence since May 2026, it has successfully delivered the FIBA international windows involving the senior men’s and women’s teams – most recently with a near-sold-out game in Manchester for the senior men – and overseen the selection of youth 3x3 and 5v5 coaches, staff and rosters for a busy summer of action.

The Group has also approved the appointment of a General Manager to oversee the GB programme in an initial six-month interim role, with the individual to be announced shortly.

Also approved is a new logo and brand for GB Basketball which can be seen below.

The GB social media channels, which had sat in the hands of administrators following the liquidation of the former British Basketball Federation (BBF), have also been revived.

Fans will again be able to follow the senior and junior 5v5 and 3x3 teams via @GBBasketball channels across social media.

Paul Blake, Chair of the GB Interim Delivery Group, said:

“It's been very positive to see the time, effort and passion provided from different parts of the sport, who have come together to deliver the programme in recent months.

“It's certainly been a real team effort. I'm confident we are building a sustainable base, which will allow us to push forward and create a positive future for Great Britain Basketball.”
