WNBL D1 Preview (13/14 Dec 2025) - Live Stats, streaming, schedule and more

Four games make up the weekend, with three ties on Saturday and a lone contest on Sunday, with ramifications at both ends of the table as eight of D1W's sides are all in action.

Yardstick games for aspiring sides

Worcester Wolves have been on the outside of the D1W title race looking in during the first half of the season, but only due to having played fewer games than some of the teams above them.

With just three losses to their name, and a win on the opening day against this weekend's opponents and joint leaders CoLA, the Wolves have been in with a shot at joining the sides at D1W's summit once the schedules levelled up.

Playing CoLA is the sort of game that Worcester will need to compete in to be at D1W's top table, so Saturday's clash takes on double importance on that front. Games in hand are only of use if you can win them, after all.

That said, very few teams have done the season double over Pride in recent memory, and winning at CoLA is a tough ask for any team regardless of their aspirations. The Wolves' plight won't be helped by their ongoing injury issues, with their roster down to bare bones due to a number of recent, and long term, casualties.

The mid-season break should help in that regard, but for now, the West Midlands side are up against it despite trying to make a push up the standings.

Mystics look to bounce back

Manchester's 57-56 home loss against the previously 2-5 London All Stars would have shocked many last weekend, not least a Mystics side that had been cruising at 7-1 before the defeat.

Few had the North West side pegged for such a lofty position at the halfway stage, especially given the pre-season loss of young GB star Irene Oboavwoduo to the SLBW.

Bouncing back to finish 2025 strong with a win over Bristol this weekend and Brent the Saturday after would represent a stunning opening half for the Mystics, and at 9-2 they'd be able to rest up and prepare for January meetings with CoLA and London Cavaliers before a trip to Ipswich in early February.

Now or never for Riders?

It may still be too early to hit the panic button for any of this season's sides, but that doesn't mean that Loughborough Riders won't be alarmed to be bottom of D1W in late December.

This weekend's home tie with Brent is a big one, with the Bulls sitting just one place outside of the potential relegation spots and four points ahead of the Riders heading into Saturday's matchup.

If Loughborough can find a way to pick up a positive result, they can roll into next weekend's clash with fellow strugglers Bromsgrove with momentum on their side and a shot at getting out of the bottom two entirely by the time the action wraps for 2025.

Looking ahead in the schedule, that aim carries some additional worth for the Riders. Their season resumes in 2026 with a trip to CoLA, a trip to Worcester, then a home tie with Ipswich. That's a trio of tough matchups for any team so the next few weeks will be big for the Midlands outfit.
