Frequently asked questions on Supporter Membership answered
This page features information for:
- Clubs and club admins
Why are we introducing support membership?
The new supporter membership aims to inject more funds into the club landscape, with members enjoying a range of both BE and club-led benefits. This can then inspire more of the basketball community to get involved with their clubs, become qualified as coaches or officials, and support the game.
Increased membership numbers also support Basketball England in securing funding to deliver more support into the basketball community in the future.
Is there a supporter membership for England teams if I don’t follow a club?
Yes, through the link below you can join the Basketball England Supporter membership, this includes all the benefits our supporter membership provides, plus you receive our weekly digital newsletter and be first to hear about all England and GB team news and results.
I already have a Participant or Performance membership, do I need the new Supporter membership?
As all the benefits provided by Basketball England in the new Supporter membership are part of existing memberships, the new supporter membership doesn’t need to be taken out in addition to any other memberships. Your club may wish to offer additional benefits as part of their own Supporter membership, which in some cases may mean their Supporter membership is worth exploring.
When does the membership start and end?
All supporter membership run from 1 July until the following June.
How does supporter membership work?
The new supporter membership, powered by PlayHQ, will enable Basketball England affiliated clubs to offer memberships to their club supporters.
The supporter membership benefits listed above can be combined with any additional benefits provided directly by a club themselves, with affiliated clubs free to set their own price for supporter memberships.
BE's price for supporter memberships is £15 for under-18s and £20 for adults. Clubs can tack on their own benefits to this offer, for example by including a season ticket, or access to a club's own benefit platform, for a total price decided by clubs themselves.
Any additional money paid above BE's own £15 and £20 price points will be retained 100% by each club. For example, if a club were to charge £35 for an adult supporter membership, BE will receive £20 of the fee paid, and the club will receive £15.
Who is it for?
The new Supporter membership is for those who are fans of the game or a club in England at any level. Members don’t have to be in England, nor actively participating, this membership is for fans and followers of your club and the sport.
Basketball England have included many of the same benefits as our existing memberships, meaning those who already have a Participant or Performance membership won’t need to join this separate tier, but they can if they wish.
What are the benefits?
Supporter members will be able to enjoy and access many of the same benefits as our exisiting memberships, with Clubs able to include their own benefits in addition. Below is a list of the benefits Basketball England provide, with our existing memberships included for comparison purposes.

At checkout, an additional +25p service fee and 1% transaction fee are added to the overall membership price. Further explanation on this is provided below.

Please note that at checkout, the Supporter membership will add an additional +25p service fee and 1% transaction fee to the overall price. As an example, for a £25 membership, this takes the total to £25.50. The fees are applied to both the Basketball England and club elements of the membership.
We already have a club membership for fans, do we have to use the Basketball England one?
If you already have a thriving supporter membership, or something similar, keep it going. If you wish to use ours, or migrate your membership so everything is in one place and your members will benefit from our benefits, we welcome that, but it isn’t compulsory. If supporter membership isn’t something your club wishes to develop, that is also fine.
How do I go about offering and launching a club supporter membership for my club?
Basketball England have invited all clubs through PlayHQ to a competition called ‘Supporter membership’. Through this invite, accept it link you would any other competition invite, and you can then set up a participant to club registration link and start promoting this link. The link works in the same way as all other memberships through PlayHQ.

The link only offers the option for someone to select ‘Supporter’ as the role, where in other registrations, player, coach etc are included in the options.
If you wish to add your own club fee to the supporter membership, this can be done in the same way as for any other role.
An alternative route is through the existing registration links you will have generated for this season, members can select the ‘Supporter’ role upon registering.
For further support around configuring registration forms, please visit the below PlayHQ article.
How will we know someone is a Supporter Member?
As with all your players and coaches, supporter members will appear in your club’s PlayHQ account.
Any supporter members with the PlayHQ App will have a membership card within their App account, clearly labelled ‘Supporter member’.
