BE Awards 2025: Dave Fisher Children’s Coach of the Year
Mia Johannes is the winner of the 2025 Dave Fisher Children’s Coach of the Year award.
Mia Johannes, at just 19 years of age, is already making a significant and lasting impact on the basketball community in Norfolk, particularly in her work with young people.
Johannes has been an integral part of Norfolk Hoopstars since its inception in September 2021, when she joined as the club’s first assistant coach, supporting founder Claire in establishing and developing the programme.
Since then, Mia’s role has grown considerably, and she is now a full-time member of staff, dividing her time between coaching responsibilities and key operational duties, including leading on merchandise production and managing the club’s social media presence.
Basketball England's Delivery Manager for Coaching, Brian Aldred, said:
"It is such a pleasure to be able to announce this award to such a worthy and impressive young nominee.
"Mia's delivery of school holiday camps and leading regular sessions across both primary and secondary schools has made a real impact in her local area.
"She has also coached five local league teams and served as assistant coach for two NBL teams.
"In addition, Mia has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to inclusivity within the sport, taking on roles as a wheelchair basketball head coach and leading SEND sessions, ensuring opportunities are accessible to all.
"Mia’s dedication, versatility, and passion for developing young players make her a truly deserving recipient of this award."
Johannes' recognition continues a 10-day period where national recipients of the 2025 Basketball England Awards will be announced, covering work from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025.
Winners from across BE's 10 regions were announced across April and May, with those recipients then shortlisted to narrow down the field for each national winner.
Johannes and others will be recognised for their achievements over the coming days, leading up to another cohort of selections being celebrated with their "Services to Basketball" awards on Wednesday, 1 July 2026.
