BE Awards 2025: Joe & Maggie Forber Community Basketball Programme of the Year

This year’s winner has made an outstanding contribution to increasing access to basketball and creating opportunities for young people who may otherwise have been excluded from the sport.

Projects at Turnpike Lane, Burgess Park and Cadishead Park have helped transform local spaces into thriving basketball hubs, while community partnerships and funding support have enabled clubs to continue growing inclusive and sustainable programmes for the future.

Through its commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and community development, Access Sport has had a significant impact on basketball participation within the London Region.

Basketball England's Participation Programmes and Local Development Manager, Nick Holloway, said:

"My congratulations go to Access Sport for their impactful work across the game.

"Through its Changing Sports basketball programme, Access Sport has worked to remove barriers to participation by renovating free community courts and supporting clubs to deliver inclusive basketball opportunities.

"In 2025 alone, the programme engaged more than 2,000 young people, including disabled participants, girls, and young people from diverse and disadvantaged communities across the region.

"Well done to all involved, and congratulations once again."

Access Sport's recognition continues a ten-day period where national recipients of the 2025 Basketball England Awards will be announced, covering work from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025.

Winners from across BE's ten regions were announced across April and May, with those recipients then shortlisted to narrow down the field for each national winner.

Access Sport and others will be recognised for their achievements over the coming days, leading up to another cohort of selections being celebrated with their "Services to Basketball" awards on Wednesday, 1 July 2026.
