Great Britain 3x3 'long lists' confirmed ahead of Europe Cup Qualifying training camp

Great Britain Basketball has confirmed the men's and women's long lists as preparations continue for next week’s FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup Qualifiers in Romania.

A training camp this weekend will bring together players from across England, Scotland and Wales as newly-appointed men's and women's head coaches Julius Joseph MBE and Kenrick Liburd begin preparations for a crucial summer of international competition.

The lists include a blend of experienced international players and emerging talent, reflecting the depth that has developed within the GB 3x3 pathway in recent years.

The training camp will provide both coaching staffs with an opportunity to evaluate players ahead of selecting the final squads that will represent Great Britain at the Europe Cup Qualifiers, where qualification for September's FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup Finals in Belgium will be on the line.

Joseph, who was recently confirmed as Great Britain Men's 3x3 head coach, believes the selected group reflects the continued growth of the discipline across the home nations.

“I’m delighted with the long list we’ve selected,” he said. “It’s a talented and hard-working group. It’s especially encouraging to see representation from England, Scotland and Wales, which speaks to the growth of 3x3 across all the home nations.

“I can’t wait to work with the players and help them take the next step in their development."

Liburd, who was appointed Great Britain Women's 3x3 head coach earlier this month after previously leading the programme in the FIBA 3x3 Nations League, is equally excited by the opportunity to work with the next group of players aiming to represent Great Britain.

“We're excited to bring together a group of players who have earned the opportunity to be part of this training camp,” he said. “The quality and depth of talent available to us is really encouraging, and it's a reflection of the continued development of 3x3 basketball across Great Britain.

"The camp will be an important opportunity for players to compete, learn and showcase what they can bring to the programme. I'm looking forward to working with the group and continuing to build towards the Europe Cup Qualifiers."

The Europe Cup Qualifiers represent the next chapter in a significant summer for Great Britain's 3x3 programme, following the recent appointments of Joseph and Liburd to lead the men's and women's teams respectively.

Both coaches will oversee training camp activity before finalising the squads that will travel to Romania, with Great Britain aiming to secure qualification for the FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup Finals later this year. The programme is also targeting a historic milestone, with both senior teams aiming to qualify for the Finals in the same season for the first time.
