NBL Updates

We are pleased that registrations are now open and clubs can generate their own links to share with players to register ahead of this season.

We wanted to share a few updates and an exciting opportunity for those willing to ask their players to register early and use the PlayHQ system to its full potential ahead of the new season.

PlayHQ Training

There are still two opportunities to get training on the new PlayHQ system. Both these dates are for "stage two" training, and form the second of three mandatory training sessions overall.

Remember, training is required before clubs are able to use PlayHQ in 2025/26:

  • Wednesday 23 July at 8pm
  • Thursday 31 July at 7pm

To book onto these sessions, which covers how to generate your registration link so that members can register, please click the link below.

Non-National Player Fees

Whilst the fee for non-national players to participate in NBL competitions has been frozen, the process for non-national player fees is slightly different to previous years.

This year, in addition to the £75 player membership licence fee, the additional element of this fee can be paid separately.

Additional non-British passport holders fee:

  • Type 1: £450
  • Type 2: £85

In the joining process, once a player declares their nationality and visa status, the link below is presented to the player through which the additional fee can be paid.

The player can then enter the invoice number to complete their registration, Your club can also add this later if you have an arrangement to pay this element of a players registration.

As additional fees only apply to anyone born before 1 September 2004 for the upcoming 2025/26 season, those born after this date can simply enter 'u21' in the Payment proof box.

Any player over-21 who plays without an invoice no. or falsifying an invoice no. will be suspended and games played forfeited. In addition, the players club will be subject to an additional administrative charge of £150.

National League Player Registration Incentive

We are excited to share an incentive for clubs competing in National League next season who manage to generate their registration links and get players registered early. Every team with 10 players registered before 5pm on Friday 1 August, your club will receive a gift voucher for £50 to use online at the Basketball England online shop.

Registration Questions

We have had some enquiries around the questions we ask in the registration process around religion, ethnicity and sexuality. Whilst we have asked these questions previously, we have reworded these and have had some questions on why we ask such personal questions.

Having greater insight into who is involved in the basketball community will be key in developing our offerings and supporting all participants in the best way we can and in the way that suits them best.

The data will also enable us to understand the gaps we currently have and where we can reach out to new people and communities, showing them that basketball is the sport for them and a sport for all.

In order for us to monitor diversity and representation in our sport we ask some questions that are anonymised for statistical and reporting purposes. The insight generated from your answers is used to help us continue to make basketball an inclusive and accessible sport.

The answers you provide are anonymised for all these purposes. Those who do not wish to answer these questions can select the prefer not to say option presented in the drop down menus.

Should you or any other members have questions on membership or PlayHQ, please do visit the FQAs on our website or us the contact us form on the Basketball England website.
