Regional Development Tournaments

Introduction

Players from our U13, U15 and U17 boys and girls in the Regional Development Programme are invited to play in our Regional Development Tournaments (RDT) where they will play against other regions of their category. This forms part of the criteria for national team selection.

What is it?
It is a tournament where all ten regions take their chosen U13, U15 and U17 boys and girls teams to battle it out to become champion. Preparation for this tournament is carried out through our Regional Development Programme, where focus is on individual player and team development. A big part of all of our development programmes

Who is it for?
The teams are chosen from the players who are on our Regional Development Programme. Find more and how to get on the RDP.

When is it?
U13 tournaments are in July. U15 and U17 tournaments are in September.

Who decides if I play in the tournament?
Your PCC and regional coaching team will assess all players on the Regional Development Programme and come to a decision on who will be taken to compete at the RDT. They base their decision on the areas of emphasis guidance document and the skills checklist.

How does this lead to other areas of the pathway?
This is where our U16 and U18 national squads are selected by our team of national coaches. Around 30 U16 and U18 boys and girls are chosen to play in the national squads. As well as this, a further 20-25 U15 and U17 boys and girls are chosen for our National Development Programme. This gives players who show potential to play for England the opportunity to work with our professional coaches and gain some international match experience before they take part in the RDP a further time and compete in this tournament to hopefully get picked for the national squads.
