England Talent Programme May camps - Day one

The May England Talent programmes (ETP) see over 60 of the most talented under 14 and 15 players that England has to offer come together for 3 days of training leading up tournaments the players will compete for their country in.

The morning session focused on strength and conditioning with the S&C staff making sure all the players are in peak physical condition for the camp. The S&C staff and the physios focused the workshops on the importance of physical movement, flexibility and injury prevention.

When the activities resumed after lunch the players straight into skill sessions. The coaches had set up six different stations ran by various coaches from the different teams allowing the whole programme to mix and get to know each other. The stations each had a different focus, from practicing power finishes to on ball defence trying to improve all the offensive and defensive fundamentals. Throughout these sessions the age groups were mixed in together creating a chance for team chemistry to improve.

After the skill sessions the players headed off the court for a educational session with Sam Messam around the five pillars of player development. This session focused on the players using their teamwork skills off the court to discuss each of the pillars so they developed the knowledge needed to help them improve themselves fully.

Steve Bucknall gave his thoughts at the end of the first day:
