NBL Division One Recap - Week 8 (23/24 November 2019)

Four teams now have records of 7-2 in the NBL Division One, while Solent Kestrels still lead the way with their walkover win. Here’s the latest recap...

 Game of the Week

 Bradford Dragons 88-94 Hemel Storm OT

 It was second time lucky for Hemel Storm, who were again involved in overtime following their thrilling overtime loss last week to Worthing Thunder, but this week saw the team claim a 94-88 victory over Bradford Dragons.

After the third quarter, it was 59-59 and all to play for in the fourth and final quarter. However, 21 points a piece in the last quarter saw the game go into overtime, which saw Storm lead 14-8 and take the victory.

Despite being on the wrong side of the scoreline, Ricky Festke scored a game-high of 35 points after an impressive performance, as well as 13 rebounds, three assists and two blocks, whilst Mike Willians Jr scored 24 points for the visitors and Bode Adeluola scored 18 more.

Storm now hold a record of 7-2 and sit second in the table.

Elsewhere in D1M

Heading into the fixture, it was 13th against 14th as Barking Abbey hosted Nottingham Hoods, and it was the visitors who claimed their second win of the season.

Demetrius Houston scored a game-high 18 points for Nottingham, whilst Truzzel Spencer and Garrison Goode added 27 more between them. Hoods now sit 11th in the ladder.

Essex & Herts Leopards fell to their ninth loss of the season, losing 81-67 to Reading Rockets.

Hafeez Abdul again displayed an impressive performance for the Leopards, with game-highs of 27 points and 14 rebounds. AJ Carr scored 16 points for the visitors, with two assists and one block.

Solent Kestrels were awarded a 20-0 victory over Liverpool after the latter forfeited the game, which sees Kestrels lead by four points at the top of the table.

Thames Valley Cavaliers were only the second team to score over a century of points, claiming a 101-93 victory over Derby Trailblazers. Abdoulaye Sylla scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and one bock, and teammate Martelle McLemore adding 27 points and seven rebounds.

Loughborough Riders defeated Leicester Warriors 90-77 at Gateway College, whilst T.J. Henderson was the leading scorer in the game for Loughborough with 31 points. Harrison Gamble scored 20 for the victorious side.

Finally, Worthing Thunder scored the most points of the round with an 111-90 win over Westminster Warriors. Alex Owumi scoring 27 points, six rebounds and five assists, whilst teammate Tom Ward added 18 points and assisted three more.
