BE statement on Government's new three-tier restrictions

Since this week’s Government announcement on the return to the three-tier Covid-19 restrictions, Basketball England has been in regular communication with Department of Media, Culture and Sport (DCMS) and Sport England to confirm the exact detail of what will be permissible in the sport.

The new nationwide restrictions are due to start from 2 December.

Each time the Government’s restrictions change the sports sector receives specific and detailed guidance following the general announcement.

Despite ongoing dialogue, we have not yet been provided with sufficient information or direction to communicate a clear position to everyone in the basketball community about what basketball activity the Government will allow to take place within each tier.

Basketball England CEO Stewart Kellett said:

“We would like to thank everyone for their continued patience and understanding. Although there are parts of the guidance issued that seem certain, we would urge everyone in the basketball community to wait for full confirmation of what is permissible and what isn’t before making arrangements or making any further venue bookings.

“We understand everyone is eager to see a safe returning to the court and we hope to be in a position early next week to provide full and clear guidance about what we can do within each tier.”
