Basketball England announces its player pathway for 3x3

Basketball England has announced its 3x3 player pathway.

Consisting of five tiers, and aligned with FIBA 3x3, the pathway will help BE develop talented 3x3 players, as an alternative, and in addition to 5v5.

The visual representation will also help 3x3 players understand the opportunities available to them, as they pursue a career or national representation in the format.

The five tiers of progression sit inside the BE Talent System and showcase the various stages of development for 3x3 basketball players from the foundations of having a first great experience in a safe space through to senior GB representation.

The Basketball England 3x3 Player Pathway

Street to Elite

Tier 1: 3x3 Street – Whether you are simply playing with your friends or aspiring to compete on the world stage, 3x3 Street is the place for EVERYONE and where the journey begins. Choose when you play, where you play and who you play with.

Tier 2: 3x3 Ready – Open competitive 3x3 events - for those looking to win titles and gain FIBA ranking points, bragging rights are on the line between you and your friends.

Tier 3: 3x3 National – Ball Out 3x3 - in partnership with BE – is the UK's premier 3x3 tournament. Streetballers from across the nation can compete in qualifying events in city locations, culminating in two days of finals in London.

Tier 4: 3x3 Pro – The top players who are specialised in 3x3 and have a professional career because of prize money and sponsors.

Tier 5: 3x3 Elite – Play for England, play for GB. Represent your country on the world stage.

BE 3x3 Development Manager Meehra Gorasia said:

"We are delighted to launch our player pathway for 3x3.

"England has pedigree in the short format of the game, as evidenced by our Gold and Silver medal success at Birmingham 2022.

"But in order to sustain participation and create future professional and elite players, we need a structure that shows where players can take their talent - whether that's playing with their friends to competing at Ball Out 3x3 or even earning money on the professional 3x3 circuit.

"It was important that the pathway also be integrated with the existing 5v5 Talent Pathway so that players are able to be exposed and have opportunities to excel in both formats of the game.

"As BE's new 3x3 Development Manager, I am truly excited to implement the pathway, continue to grow 3x3 participation and maintain the nation's reputation of being a world beater in the format."

3x3 is simple and flexible enough to be played almost anywhere by anybody - and it's no surprise it is the number one urban team sport in the world.

The game made its Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and was one of the main attractions at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham where Team England won gold and silver medals.
