2024/25 NBL Awards week: NBL Division Three

With the NBL and WNBL Playoff Finals all set for this weekend, it's time for the league's end-of-season awards.

Selected from across the league's five competitions and spread, as usual, across the next five days ahead of this weekend's showpiece games, we'll highlight worthy recipients from across the NBL.

Based on performances across the regular season, we'll follow the familiar pattern by announcing NBL Division Three's winners today, with WNBL Division Two coming tomorrow.

Wednesday will be NBL Division Two, with WNBL Division One on Thursday.

The week will conclude with the awards for NBL Division One ahead of this weekend's Senior Playoff Finals at Manchester's National Basketball Performance Centre.

Wilson Players of the Year

The top players are recognised from across D3's four pools, with a quartet of worthy winners.

Sheffield Sharks took top spot in Pool I, and a big reason for that was the play of former BBLer Sedale Hanson-Young, who enjoyed a quality campaign.

Birmingham City University went an impressive 17-1 to win Pool II, ten points ahead of their next closest rivals. Described as bringing an 'X-Factor' to the West Midlands outfit by head coach Danny Williams, Reiss Faure-Daley is their worthy MVP pick for 2024/25.

Alejandro Prescott-Cornejo gets recognition for his high level of performance in Pool III, providing plenty of eye-catching outings for Oxford Hoops as they edged Crawley Storm to the title.

The Spanish national enjoyed a standout season, with the guard also captaining the team to lead by example.

Finally, CoLA Southwark Pride continue to make strides in the NBL, closing the gap to their WNBL programme with continued success on the men's side.

Winning Pool IV was another step in that process, with 27-year-old Kemar Hawes receiving a Player of the Year nod for his part in the success.

Wilson Coaches of the Year

It's not just players getting the glory, with a number of high-quality coaches also getting their share of the spotlight.

With the Sharks edging out a number of competitive rivals this year, including West Yorkshire Hawks and Tameside Vikings, Sheffield's Owen Norfolk is recognised for his ability to get the best from his roster in South Yorkshire.

Birmingham City University were the only D3 side to lose just once this season. Their 17-1 campaign means head coach Danny Williams gets the nod for Coach of the Year in Pool II.

After forming the club way back in 1995, few names come to mind more when talking about Oxford Hoops than Franky Marulanda. Adding a Coach of the Year award from Pool III, the 57-year-old continues to drive the club forward, and their 2024/25 D3 campaign was no exception.

That just leaves Jay Williams to complete this year's winners, earning the plaudits for his work in Pool IV with CoLA Southwark Pride. No stranger to recognition after his 2023/24 EABL South Coach of the Year award, Williams continues to make waves in Central London as part of the Pride's programme.
