BE Awards 2024: Bill Taylor Table Official of the Year

Alissa Shannon is the winner of the 2024 Bill Taylor Table Official of the Year award.

Achieving her level three table officiating qualification at just 17, Shannon is a mainstay at all levels of the Milton Keynes Breakers' pathway, covering games from the top of the NBL right down to community and local league.

Using her drive and passion to also mentor other officials despite her young age, Shannon is a real driving force for officials' development in the South region.

Speaking about the award, South Chair Ruth Fettes said:

"Alissa’s contribution to Milton Keynes Breakers is enormous, both directly and indirectly, where she’s been instrumental in mentoring and assessing our next generation of young table officials.

"Achieving her Level 3 qualification at just 17, Alissa regularly tables for both the Senior Men's and Women’s teams, as well as officiating community basketball league, Academy and Jnr. NBL games.

"Congratulations to a wonderful young lady!"

Basketball England's Delivery Manager for Officiating, Simon Unsworth, added:

"Firstly I'd like to congratulate Shannon on winning this prestigious accolade. The Bill Taylor award has a significant history and she is a worthy recipient.

"To see such dedication to the sport is excellent, but to do so whilst already being so highly-qualified is a real asset to the sport. Shannon's drive is a benefit to all those in the South region and beyond, and I am delighted for her success.

"There was a real depth to the the pool of regional winners for 2024, making selecting a National winner a tough task, though it does highlight the fantastic work that is going on across the country."

Shannon's recognition continues an eight-day period where national recipients of the 2024 Basketball England Awards will be announced.

Winners from across BE's ten regions were announced across April and May, with those recipients then shortlisted to narrow down the field for each national winner.

Shannon and others will be recognised for their achievements over the coming days, leading up to another cohort of selections being celebrated with their "Services to Basketball" awards on Monday, 7 July 2025.
