BE Awards 2024: Harry Errington Volunteer of the Year

Jeff Skinner is the winner of the 2024 Harry Errington Volunteer of the Year award.

Nominated for his decades of dedicated work as a volunteer, Skinner is the chair and treasurer of Cobras Basketball Club, as well as holding a number of other volunteer roles in the South region.

A vital part of the Cobras organisation, including booking court time, balancing the books and budgets plus handling payments from the club's 400+ players, Skinner is a selfless and constant support for the club's CEO and admin team.

Despite his level of involvement in the game, Skinner still finds time to table official matches at both the NBL and CBL level, further enhancing the strength of his deserving claim to this year's Harry Errington award.

Speaking about the award, South Chair Ruth Fettes said:

"Jeff Skinner is a vital part of the South Region's basketball community, embodying dedication and selflessness.

"As the financial steward, he meticulously manages the budget for Cobras Basketball Club, Aztecs Basketball Club and the Wessex Area, ensuring their stability and growth.

"Beyond the numbers, Jeff supports every coach and staff member, offering encouragement and guidance that fuels their success. Jeff has also held several chair and vice chair roles within the region.

"With a heart of gold, Jeff’s vision for the club’s success is matched only by his willingness to go the extra mile. He exemplifies the true spirit of volunteering and community impact."

Skinner's award continues an eight-day period where national recipients of the 2024 Basketball England Awards will be announced.

Winners from across BE's ten regions were announced across April and May, with those recipients then shortlisted to narrow down the field for each national winner.

Bolt and others will be recognised for their achievements over the coming days, leading up to another cohort of selections being celebrated with their "Services to Basketball" awards on Monday, 7 July 2025.
