BE Awards 2024: John Sage Club Coach of the Year

Yorkshire's Katie Lamond is the winner of the 2024 John Sage Club Coach of the Year award.

Heavily involved within the talent programmes as both a lead and assistant coach, Lamond also led her sides to a number of Jnr. NBL triumphs in 2024/25, including the U16 North Conference league and U18 North Conference League, plus England U14s Girls Tri-Nations winners and Copenhagen Invitational champions

Since joining the University of Leeds three years ago, Lamond has played a key role in back-to-back-to-back Varsity championship wins, two Christie Cups and a BUCS Cup victory.

Well-liked by her players, many of whom mention their own improvements under her watch, her enthusiasm and knowledge of the game are ever-visible alongside her calm demeanour on court, making her a great example to new coaches.

Basketball England's Delivery Manager for Coaching, Brian Aldred, said:

"Having been a keen footballer, Katie started coaching basketball whilst attending university in Leeds, much to the sport's benefit.

"Katie coaches across the spectrum of participation programmes, from minis to senior local leagues, Jnr. NBL programmes and across the talent pathway, and is an integral part of the U15 England Talent Programme as well.

"She shows a great amount of connection with all players and is a great example of player centred coaching. She is thoroughly deserving of this award. Well done to her!"

Lamond's recognition almost brings to an end the eight-day period where national recipients of the 2024 Basketball England Awards have been announced.

Winners from across BE's ten regions were announced across April and May, with those recipients then shortlisted to narrow down the field for each national winner.

The final announcement remaining is to celebrate another cohort of selections for the Services to Basketball award, which will be announced at 3pm this afternoon, Monday, 7 July 2025.
