After registering to provide Slam Jam sessions last year, Northants' have proved to be so popular with young people that they quickly had to add a second session, swelling to almost 60 young players in attendance.
Delivered by qualified club coaches, with help from young leaders from within the club, the session were a huge hit as players developed quickly, and built their confidence and love for the game.
More importantly, the Slam Jam sessions acted as conduit into mainstream club activity, with over 90% of players returning to the club once the new season began.
The sessions were delivered by two of the clubs Level 2 coaches and were assisted by young basketball leaders from the club.
"Northants Basketball Club has emerged as industry leaders in providing basketball opportunities for people aged seven to eleven.
"They have not only given over 60 young people a great first touch point with the sport in 2024, but they have developed a sustainable model where their own young leaders deliver the programme.
"We look forward to working with them for many years as they showcase best practice in delivering Slam Jam."
Slam Jam is packed with fun basketball games, rewards and gives children a great way to learn the basic skills of the game.
Aimed at children aged seven to eleven-years old, the programme is designed to provide a great first experience to the sport in a fun, safe and engaging atmosphere. Slam Jam not only focuses on basketball related activity, but it also aims to improve the physical literacy and fundamentals of movement for all participants.
Sessions can be delivered over six weeks as part of PE lessons or after school clubs, as well as within a club or community setting.
Northants' recognition continues an eight-day period where national recipients of the 2024 Basketball England Awards will be announced.
Winners from across BE's ten regions were announced across April and May, with those recipients then shortlisted to narrow down the field for each national winner.
The club and others will be recognised for their achievements over the coming days, leading up to another cohort of selections being celebrated with their "Services to Basketball" awards on Monday, 7 July 2025.
