NBL1 recap: 12/13 April 2025 - live streams, stats and more

Eight has become four, with the D1M playoff field halving following an action-packed weekend.

All four home sides advanced, with top-four seeds Hemel, Derby, Reading and Milton Keynes progressing to this year's semi-finals.

We take a look back at all the weekend's match-ups below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

#1 Hemel Storm 95-78 #8 Bristol Hurricanes

Defending champs Hemel Storm are up and running for the post-season after a comfortable 95-78 victory against Bristol Hurricanes.

There was to be no repeat of the four-point battle between the sides in Bristol last month as the hosts controlled this one throughout, using a 29-17 opening quarter to lead from almost tip to buzzer.

Tra' Michael Moton (23pts) top scored as Matt Ellis (18pts, 5reb) also played well, with Sam Newman (13ast) and New Zealander Brayden Inger (13pts, 8reb), now free of his visa issues and strapped in for the playoffs, also providing ample support.

Bristol forward Daniel Edozie (22pts, 15reb) continued his standout season with another familiar double-double, but without fellow forward Vilmantas Dilys, Denzel Ubiaro (19pts) and Elvisi Dusha (13pts, 5reb, 5ast) were left to pick up the slack.

Storm now move on to an exciting home clash with Milton Keynes, and the Hurricanes head into the off-season following a debut season to be proud of in D1M.

#2 Derby Trailblazers 86-68 #7 London Cavaliers

Derby Trailblazers eased their way into the next round, ending the journey of #7 seeds London Cavaliers 86-68.

Controlling the contest for much of the 40 minutes, the hosts were double-digit leaders for the entire second half as Rob Marsden (14pts, 11reb, 5ast) provided a solid double-double.

His 6/7 shooting performance helped the Trailblazers hit 50% as a team, with Malcolm Smith (24pts, 62% FG), Jai Pathmarajah (18pts, 54% FG) and Mo Walker (17pts, 62% FG) all playing well.

London's Justin Robinson endured a tough afternoon, shooting 2/12 from the floor as Matthew Bryan-Amaning (22pts, 6reb) instead led the way, with Troy McIndoe (16pts, 9reb) coming close to a double-double.

Hitting just four of their 25 shots from long-range proved to be the undoing of the visitors in the end, with Derby instead advancing to next weekend's semi-finals.

Trailblazers head coach Kyle Henderson was delighted with the way Derby went about their business: “I’m ecstatic with the result. We were careful to make sure we were only thinking about the quarter-final because when it comes to the play-offs, there’s no point in thinking any further until you’ve completed the first task.

“If you look at the spread of our scorers, it was a very even distribution of points and minutes and it was nice to be able to get a couple of the Academy guys into the game late on, because it means a lot to them as they get to play alongside and against some of the legends of the game.

#3 Reading Rockets 94-74 #6 Essex Rebels

There was to be no repeat of last month's Essex road win in Reading as the Rockets came through as 94-74 winners.

The Rebels had cast a spanner into their opponents' title plans just a few weeks ago, but that result never looked likely to come to pass for a second time as Mitch Clarke (27pts, 5ast) and Ty Nsangu (12pts, 15reb) both provided big performances.

Last month's upset was powered by Essex guard Luke Busumbru, who had 35 points and eight assists last time the clubs met. The hosts changed their approach this time around, limiting the impact of the former Solent man as he went 0/5 shooting, though was able to dish nine assists.

Forwards Emmanuel Kanwei (18pts, 5reb) and Daniel Johnson-Thompson (18pts, 6reb) instead pushed the visitors forward, but it wouldn't be enough to threaten an upset.

#4 Milton Keynes Breakers 71-68 #5 Loughborough Riders

Milton Keynes came through the battle of the #4 vs #5 contest to begin the weekend, edging a hard-fought encounter 71-68.

Both teams took the opportunity to lead, with the Breakers going up in the early going before Loughborough fought back following the main change. Despite entering the final ten minutes as 56-50 leaders, the Riders would be powerless to resist the Breakers as they surged back, using a 21-12 final frame to get themselves over the line.

On a day when Adrian Scarborough and captain Jordan Spencer failed to reach their usual lofty heights, Kai Walker (16pts, 14reb) and Chris Tawiah (17pts, 10reb) both provided double-doubles instead, with Romario Spence (10pts, 7reb) chipping in a useful contribution off the MK bench.

Loughborough rode a three-pronged offensive force of Justin Hedley (21pts, 5reb), Victor Ndoukou (20pts, 10reb) and Michael Joiner (15pts, 8reb), but no other player would pass six points for the visitors, leaving them just short come the final buzzer.
