Petts, a scout and talent identification specialist, has hosted a series of online and in person sessions joined by other renowned coaches to upskill the England coaches and in turn the players in their charge.
Themes for the sessions have included planning and responsibilities and a focus on the British style of basketball play; looking at individual and team performance with GB U20 men's Head Coach Alan Keane, player analytics with Sideline Sports XPS and TeamSportz, and implementing player development with BE's Sam Messam.
"The ETP programme isn't only about player development, it's also about improving our coaches through high-performance exposure."
Last week, the head coaches and support staff were announced by Basketball England for the U14 and U15 squads.
Progressing from assistant coaching roles in previous editions of the ETP, Reading Rockets' Charlie Haynes and Nottingham Wildcats' Caitlyn Riley head up the U15 boys and girls squads, respectively, whilst taking charge of the U14s is Worcester Wolves' Shanice Turner and Kingston Lions' Ramose Modesto, whose club won the London Region 2024 Community Basketball Programme of the Year.
Assistants this year are Natalie Feurtado, Katie Lamond, Chanel Mubeen, Kiely Reed, Anthony Reed, Jake Shuttlewood, Mitchell Timmins and Freddie Winton.
Charlie Haynes, who also coaches at the Reading Rockets and its academy programme, the JMA Rockets, said the webinars had been a welcome edition to the ETP scheduling.
"It's been good for us to get together and be challenged in terms of our depth of understanding of the player development framework and how to get more into its details and utilise it on the court," said Haynes.
"We have been able to get quite detailed in our discussions and really challenge and better understand one another, so that we are fully prepared for the selection camp. It's provoked our thoughts in terms of what we would like to try and achieve and how we can best do it."
Next week, players will attend a three-day selection camp from the 26 and 28 May at the National Basketball Performance Centre, with coaches looking to select 12-player squads for this summer’s activity, which starts with the U15 Home Nations Invitational, taking place on the 31 May-1 June in Manchester.
