NBL3 Playoff Final: Birmingham City University 85-92 Crawley Storm

Crawley Storm marked their first-ever senior NBL Final with a pulsating 92-85 victory over a highly-competitive Birmingham City University.

The Academy side were good value for their win, showing no fear despite their relative youth and going toe-to-toe against a more experience and physical opponent.

With neither side able to pull away for the majority of the contest, Crawley's 13-point advantage with 3:35 remaining looked to have the result sewn up. BCU had other ideas though, and in what felt like the blink of an eye, the score was 86-85 Crawley with 1:20 still to go.

As both teams battled late foul trouble, the veteran presence of Tom Ward (15pts, 14pts, 5ast, 3stl) helped Storm edge over the line, providing poise in possession and doing just enough from the line when fouled.

MVP honours went to young forward Safi Tidjani (21pts, 12reb), who led his side in scoring alongside a tenacious shift down low that belied his age.

Sean Mackey (18pts) helped Crawley to a fast start, doing the bulk of his work before the main change, whilst Matt Aziamale (13pts, 9reb) came close to a double-double.

Ronald Oberia (34pts, 6reb) played an incredible ball game to keep Birmingham in the contest, including sparking their late run that narrowed the score to a one-point game.

James Miller (15pts, 7reb) and Karl Teesdale (13pts, 5ast) rounded out the scoring for BCU.

WNBL2 Playoff Final: Milton Keynes Breakers 69-75 London All Stars

London All Stars claimed their maiden D2W title as they edged past Milton Keynes Breakers 75-69.

In a back-and-forth affair that saw the teams exchanging 20-10 quarters in both the second and third, the Pool II winners would outlast the Breakers to eventually claim the W.

Leading by double digits shortly into the fourth, and by 11 with 3:44 to go, London looked to press home their advantage, but MK fought back to trail by just four in the closing moments. The spark needed to get back on level terms would elude the Pool I champs though, leaving the All Stars celebrating come the final buzzer.

The MVP choice was a tough one, with forward Bena Ozzy-Momodu (17pts, 58% FGs, 5reb, 3stl) narrowly getting the nod ahead of her teammate Josephine Maignomo (15pts, 13reb, 4ast, 4stl), who also finished with an impressive +/- of 16 in the six-point win.

Talented guard Sarah Round (25pts, 7reb, 5ast) paced the Breakers throughout the game, drawing a bruising nine fouls as she toughed out a quality performance.

India Morrell (15pts, 4reb, 5ast) was the only other MK scorer to make it to double digits, with Courtney Grey (6pts, 9reb) the pick of the rest.

NBL2 Playoff Final: Team Solent Kestrels 83-62 Barking Abbey

Team Solent Kestrels easily saw off Barking Abbey, having the last laugh against their South rivals with an 83-62 win.

Barking won a late-season meeting between the teams, coming through as 79-69 victors last month, but there was to be no repeat as Solent raced out to a double-digit lead by the mid-point of the second quarter and grew their advantage the longer the game wore on.

One reason for their dominance was an undeniable MVP performance from guard Andre Arissol. Pouring in a game-high 37 points, the former Milton Keynes man added five assists, five steals and four rebounds to wow the crowds at the National Basketball Performance Centre.

Isa Brandon (18pts, 14reb), Russell Gariepy (10pts, 6reb) and Wayne Kitenge (8pts, 10reb) all showed up in support, with the South coast side having their way on the glass (54-47), in the assist column (16-10) and shooting the ball (45%-36%).

With a number of Barking's roster now signing off from the London programme to move onto the next stage of their basketball journeys, including Amarlie Wilkinson, Ethan Conway and Lewis Obiorah, it was a tough way to end their season.

Wilkinson (16pts, 9reb, 4ast, 3stl) top scored, and Adamas Lukosevicius (10pts) was the only other BA player to pass into double-digits.
