Shanghai Future Stars Tournament: Basketball England x UK50 team entered

Basketball England has partnered with UK50 to support the development of players on the England Talent Pathway.

Through the collaboration, a UK50 U16 select team has been formally endorsed by BE to participation in the Shanghai Future Stars Tournament in July - a premier international competition that offers elite exposure and high-level development for the UK’s rising basketball talent.

UK50 say their mission is ‘to identify, develop, and empower the top young players in the UK through elite training, mentorship, and exposure’.

The partnership represents a shared vision to:

  • Extend the national talent pathway beyond the Aspire Programme and England national teams
  • Deliver elite international experiences that keep top athletes motivated and engaged
  • Support structured, long-term development for the next generation of Great Britain stars

Steve Bucknall, Basketball England Head of Talent and Performance, said:

“This endorsement of UK50 marks an exciting development in our efforts to extend the national talent pathway.

“By supporting the U16 team’s participation in the Shanghai Future Stars Tournament, we’re providing elite exposure by opening doors for talented players outside the national teams.

“This initiative is about creating opportunities for a wider pool of emerging athletes, ensuring that the next generation of British basketball talent has the chance to shine on the global stage.”

A statement from UK50 said:

“With the support of Basketball England — and our unwavering focus on scouting, development, and performance — UK50 is building a stronger bridge between grassroots talent and global opportunity.

“We’re actively seeking partners and sponsors who believe in transforming British basketball from the ground up, and who want to be part of this bold movement toward international excellence.”
