WNBL1 preview: 12/13 April 2025 - live streams, stats and more

A pair of games take place this weekend as D1W's remaining field goes from four to two.

Both of the top two seeds, #1 CoLA Southwark Pride and #2 Endeavour Ipswich Basketball, are at home, and take on the #3 and #4 seeds for a spot at Manchester's National Basketball Performance Centre at the end of the month.

We take a look at both of the weekend's match-ups below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

#1 CoLA Southwark Pride vs #4 Anglia Ruskin University

Defending playoff champs CoLA Southwark Pride can make it five finals in a row if they can knock off #4 seeds Anglia Ruskin University.

Winners in 2023/24 and 2021/22, plus runners up in 2022/23 and 2020/21, CoLA have plenty of recent history on their side as they look for another big victory this weekend. Anglia Ruskin haven't made it to the D1W showpiece since 2018/19, when they won the last of their two titles, so a return to glory will be their aim.

Both teams are coming off commanding performances last time out, with CoLA seeing off #8 seeds Worcester 71-45, and ARU easing past Bristol 82-54 in the #5 vs #4 match-up. ARU's Vicky Gray and Tia Freeman both made the FocusHoops D1W Team of the Week for their exploits against the Flyers, as did CoLA's Rachel Madu.

Madu is another increasingly dominant forward off the Pride's conveyor belt of talent, getting an expanded role alongside Eva-Grace Yebila in the absence of young forward Chloe Vella, who is out with a season-ending injury.

Both players, plus emerging star Adaora Dioramma, will need to find a way to navigate ARU's American forward Izabelle Booth, who averages 16.5PPG and 10.2RPG for the season.

Freeman and Gray matching up with CoLA guard Ayla Habbal (16.3PPG, 4.2APG) will also be good viewing.

Ruskin lost nine games in the regular season, but six came against the top three trio of CoLA, Ipswich and Brent. This weekend would be an excellent time to break that streak for the Cambridge outfit, but you can't bet against hosts CoLA given their streak in recent years.

#2 Endeavour Ipswich Basketball vs #3 Brent Bulls

It's a repeat of this season's WNBL National Cup Final in the other semi, with Ipswich hosting Brent.

Ipswich took January's final 81-53 thanks to 28 points and 11 rebounds from eventual MVP Harriet Welham, but it was forward Louisa Gibbins (12pts, 19reb, 6ast, 4blk) that turned in the game's most efficient outing that day.

The former Bristol prospect was at it again last weekend in the win over #7 seeds Loughborough, with 11 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists, plus four steals and four blocks on defence.

It was a mighty all round performance from the young forward as she moves into what she'll be hoping is her penultimate game for the club before heading to the University of Vermont come the season's end.

Gibbins, as she was in the Cup Final, was once again upstaged against the Riders, with Hannah Gray (31pts, 9reb) instead continuing her inspirational return from significant injury issues to produce a Player of the Week performance.

When a player like Gibbins can produce those types of stat lines without leading the way for her side, it shows the kind of strength in depth Ipswich possesses. That's the problem Brent need to overcome, who scrapped their way to a dogged 60-35 home win against Manchester last weekend.

Much has been placed on the shoulders of American Lindsey Cleary in the last few months, leading the side in the absence of injured standout Judit Fritz.

Cleary has risen to the occasion, producing some eye-catching performances, but it was Fritz's 29 points that helped the Bulls triumph  80-76 in Suffolk when the sides met last November.

Ipswich had their revenge in February's return leg, winning in Brent 61-57, as Fritz was forced to watch on.

With three exciting contests already in the books for this season, WNBL fans will happily take in a fourth and final instalment between these two sides this weekend.
