Basketball England appoints Shaun Gagie to HR & Governance role

Basketball England is delighted to announce the appointment of Shaun Gagie as the organisation’s lead for Governance & HR.

With a significant background in governance, HR, training and development, Shaun moves over to Basketball England from the University of Bradford, where he worked for 12 months as their Head of Organisational Development. Whilst the work that Shaun undertakes will be largely internal, ensuring organisational compliance and strong governance will in turn provide wider benefits for the sport as a whole.

“I’m excited to be here at Basketball England,” said Shaun earlier this week. “I’ll be working closely with the Executive Board, Senior Management Team and internal staff to make sure the organisation continues its previous good work with regards to governance and compliance.”

One of the four central pillars of Basketball England’s recently announced six-year Strategic Plan “Growing Basketball Together” is to achieve high performing National Governing Body status by 2024. Shaun’s appointment and future work will play an integral role as the organisation works towards that aim. Compliance with the independent Code for Sports Governance, working within statutory operational practice and compliance with financial and legal obligations as an NGB will all be a focus in the coming 12 months, as highlighted in the Strategic Plan.

On a day to day basis, Shaun will also have a significant amount of interaction with internal staff to support employee development and training across the business. Over time, Basketball England aspires to become an industry employer of choice, based on solid HR policies, procedures and continued personal development.
