PLAYER SPOTLIGHT - Harry Williams, Maidstone Warriors

The NBL Weekend Takeover for 24/25 November will see Maidstone Warriors take the reins of the NBL Instagram story.

We caught up with Warriors' Harry Williams ahead of their takeover weekend, in our latest Player Spotlight feature.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

Name: Harry Williams

Team: Maidstone Warriors - Under 16 Boys (South II Regional)

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Harry Williams, I’m 15 years old and I play point guard for Maidstone Warriors and Kent county.

What brought you to the NBL in the first place?

I always wanted to play competitively week-in, week-out at a higher level. I’d often speak to my coach about joining the NBL, which we first entered last year.

What was your first impression of the NBL? How has that changed?

My first impression is that the standard of the NBL was high and we as a team had a lot to learn. However, this year we’ve come into it a lot more prepared, confident and stronger as a team.

What was your first "bright spot" with your team?

It was during the second game of last season, we were playing against a tough team and I realised at this point I could compete at a high standard against anyone.

What was your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge was in the first game where I realised that there is a lot I need to improve on if I want to carry on pushing myself in basketball.

What changes have you noticed in yourself since joining the NBL?

The main change I have noticed in myself is my confidence, not only while just playing basketball, but in my regular life as well.

What are you working on right now, what are your current goals?

I’m working on becoming a better overall scorer as well as becoming a vocal leader on and off the court. My current goals are to win the league so we can make the playoffs.

What is your favourite NBL memory?

Beating our local rivals by one point whilst being down by nearly 20 points in the first half.

What advice would you give someone who is just getting started in basketball?

To work on the basics and get them perfected as it will enable you to be able to develop further. Also, make sure you are always having fun whilst playing.

What do you like to do outside of basketball?

I enjoy meeting up with my family and friends.

Finally, who is your favourite British basketball player and why?

Andre Lockhart of the London Lions is my favourite British basketball player as he coached me at the Let Me Play basketball camp at University of Nottingham this summer.
