PLAYER SPOTLIGHT - Molly Lavin, Richmond Knights

For our first NBL takeover, Richmond Knights will be taking over the NBL Instagram stories on Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 October.

We caught up with Knights' Molly Lavin ahead of their takeover weekend, in the first Player Spotlight of the 2018/19 season.

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

Name: Molly Lavin

Team: Richmond Knights - U16 Girls (South Premier)

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I turn 15 next month, I am in year 10, I have a twin brother and I am sports mad!

What brought you to the NBL in the first place?

I started playing basketball in primary school as part of the community programme. Not long after I joined the Knights team and one thing led to another having such a good coach.

What was your first impression of the NBL? How has that changed?

Scary at first but now I love the challenge as the standard has become much higher.

What was your first "bright spot" with your team?

First game of NBL beating Haringey Angels who had won the league the year before.

What was your biggest challenge?

Going through national selection process.

What changes have you noticed in yourself since joining the NBL?

I have gained confidence, skill and resilience.

What are you working on right now, what are your current goals?

Working on getting quicker on my feet and my running/movement technique.

What is your favourite NBL memory?

Making to the final fours with such great teammates.

What advice would you give someone who is just getting started in basketball?

You really need to believe that hard work pays off, and trust your coach.

What do you like to do outside of basketball?

Football and spending time with my friends.

Finally, who is your favourite British basketball player and why?

Chantelle Pressley, as she played in the Commonwealth Games this year and managed to win the silver medal. I look up to her as she is the same height as me and is still quite young. I think its amazing how well the team did after only making their second appearance in the Games.
