Team England: Future Stars Tournament - recap, highlights, gallery

Team England's U18 Men finished fourth at last weekend's Future Stars youth tournament at Brunel University, London.

The U18 select team comprising of a number of EABL talents beat local hosts London United 81-66 to begin the competition before falling to defeats against Zalgiris Kaunas, Stella Azurra Academy and Porsche BBA Ludwigsburg over the next two days.

Zalgiris Kaunas would eventually take the title on Sunday afternoon, beating Stella Azurra 68-56.

The tournament provided an excellent platform for a number of solid English performances, including Timothy Oboh (17pts, 6reb, 2blk vs London United, 16pts, 7reb, 2ast vs Zalgiris Kaunas), Joe Lloyd (14pts, 1reb, 1stl vs Stella Azurra) and Will Taylor (11pts, 14reb3ast vs Ludwigsburg).

The event also included an International Coaching Clinic on the Saturday, allowing UK-based coaches to experience some of the most up- to-date trends in developing young talent. Speakers included Tautvydas Šležas, Germano D’Arcangeli, Andrea Pelliconi and Phillip Staiger as they talked about illustrative concepts to player development.

Basketball England's Head of Talent and Performance Steve Bucknall said:

"The Future Stars tournament is once again a prestigious event in our basketball calendar and offers an excellent opportunity for our players and staff to get a taste of European basketball.

"These types of experiences are invaluable as we continue to build our Talent Pathway."

Head coach Jay Williams added:

“It was a pleasure and honour to coach an England select team representing the EABL at the Future Stars tournament.

"The weekend was full of quality teams that really displayed a very high level of individual skills and team play.

"The England team put together with players from across the EABL were a good group and a pleasure to coach. They really gave it all they had, playing together with real heart and and determination and showing improvement in every game.

"Thank you to Basketball England for allowing coach Kieran Wright and I to lead the team, and to Jack [Majewski, Events Director] and the entire Future Stars team for putting on a great tournament and coaching clinic."
