#Playball set to keep Satellite Club sessions rolling through the summer!

Basketball England has announced the launch of #Playball; a new programme for satellite clubs running over the summer of 2019 on outdoor courts.

The programme is currently in the pilot stage, utilising existing satellite clubs to run summer sessions on outdoor courts to gauge uptake and interest. The project gives players a chance to get outside and enjoy the weather whilst also staying active all year-round.

Satellite clubs provide regular opportunities for people to enjoy sport and activity through the creation of informal, convenient club opportunities for young people. Designed around their needs and providing a positive experience of being active, the clubs can help bridge the gap between school, college and community sport and provide new opportunities for young people to get active.

In recent years, Satellite clubs have helped thousands of young people to get active and they’re primarily focused on young people aged 14-19 who aren’t already active.

One drawback for the majority of Satellite Club sessions is that they’re often based within educational sites and when schools and colleges close for the summer, the sessions need to end as well. That’s where #Playball comes in, tackling this obstacle and providing Satellite Club session all year round.

For satellite clubs that sign up for #Playball, Basketball England will provide an equipment bag containing Wilson outdoor balls, cones, pumps, nets, banners and branding for your club to use on outdoor courts.
