Following the England Talent Programmes (ETP) camp this week in Manchester, Basketball England is delighted to announce the Under 15 Boys and Girls squads for two tournaments that are coming up next week.
Head Coach Cristina Stanciuca will take the Under 15 Girls to Nottingham to compete in a 4-team tournament involving two Great Britain U16 select teams and the Ireland U16 team on Thursday and Friday, 18/19 April. The Lions Cup in Paris, France will also get underway on 19 April, running through to the 22nd and Head Coach Chris Bourne’s Under 15 Boys are scheduled to face off against some of Europe’s very best, including Nanterre, CB l’Hospitalet, KK Spars Sarajevo and National Team select squads from Poland and Lithuania.
Both coaches have now selected a roster of players to take to each tournament and represent England, with Stanciuca naming 16 young hopefuls for Nottingham and Bourne selecting a squad of 12 to head to France.
“I want to congratulate all the players selected to our Under 15 sides, it is a fantastic accomplishment and representative of their efforts over a significant period of time, including this week’s ETP camp,” said Basketball England’s Talent Programme and Pathway Manager Charlie Ford. “The selection policy to the England teams is by no means a closed door process. Picking our squads is always difficult, but the pool of players in consideration for England selection from the ETP continues to be a wide one. If players work hard and develop their game, there will always be opportunities in the future.”
The tournaments in Nottingham and Paris represent a busy summer of activity for the England Under 15 sides. A further camp in Manchester is scheduled for May, with a tournament in Copenhagen, Denmark penned in for mid-June. That will provide all ETP players with plenty more opportunities to work with their coaches and staff as they look to take that next step in their basketball journey.
