What is Slam Jam? +

Slam Jam is a six week programme that aims to get children aged between 7-11 to try basketball for the first time in a fun and safe environment.

How much does the programme cost? +

The recommended retail price of Slam Jam is £43. Some activators may charge an additional membership.

What does each child receive as part of the programme? +

The programme cost includes six Slam Jam sessions, a drawstring bag, a Slam Jam t-shirt, a Slam Jam basketball, an award card and other goodies, including sweatbands, a cap and a water bottle. Stickers will be given out throughout the programme to celebrate attendance and achievements.

How old does my child have to be to register? +

Slam Jam is a programme designed for 7-11 year olds.

When will my participant pack be delivered? +

Following course booking, please allow 10 working days for your participant pack to arrive. If more than one kit is ordered (e.g. in the case of a sibling), please note that kits may be distributed on different days.

What can my child and I expect at a Slam Jam session? +

Slam Jam is an action-packed, fun programme of game-based activities that will help to give your child a great first experience of basketball. Throughout the six weeks, your child will be learning lots of new skills, making friends and most importantly having fun!

Is the programme safe? +

Yes, the Slam Jam programme is an initiative designed by Basketball England.

Basketball England require all activators to undergo safeguarding, risk and insurance assessments before they are accredited. Alongside this, all of our Slam Jam activators have received training and are fully checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

How do I register? +

Registration is simple and easy. Just use the session finder to find a delivery provider in your local area.

From there you can follow the registration links and pay online. If you are unable to find a programme close to you, please click on the ‘need help’ button at the bottom of the page for further information.

How do I find a Slam Jam session? +

All Slam Jam sessions can be found here. Simply search your postcode to locate your nearest delivery provider.

What happens if my child misses a session? +

If your child misses a session due to being ill or unable to attend, you can discuss making the session up with your delivery provider but this will be at their discretion and may not be possible.

Can my child join half way through a programme and what happens if my child doesn’t receive a full programme? +

Yes, your child can join a programme after it has started.

However, please be aware this does not guarantee them the six sessions.

When registering, we would recommend checking with your delivery provider to see if they can accommodate any extra sessions. Please note, this is at their discretion and may not be possible.

I have received the wrong t-shirt size in my order? +

If you receive the wrong size, please get in touch with us at [email protected] to request a new size.

Please confirm your order details and the t-shirt you have received in error in the email. You will be provided with a returns label for the t-shirt you received incorrectly.

Is there anything my child needs to take to their session? +

We recommend bringing a bottle of water to stay hydrated.

Will any photos be taken of my child during the session? +

Photos may be taken during the sessions. Consent will need to be given to allow photography, as well as the use of these photos.

What happens after Slam Jam? +

If your child has caught the basketball bug and wants to continue playing, our club finder will help locate your nearest junior sessions to allow your child to continue on their basketball journey.

Club FAQs

Does it cost anything to become a Slam Jam delivery provider? +

Yes. Our Slam Jam affiliation fee is £200 (introductory offer) and this is a one-time fee. For this, you will receive activator training for up to five staff and all delivery resources, including the bespoke Slam Jam coaching resource, activator kit and 20 basketballs.

When a parent/guardian enrols their child onto Slam Jam, they will pay £43 and receive a participant pack which includes a t-shirt, cap, ball, sweatbands, a water bottle and an award card. The pack will be sent straight to the child’s home address.

What support will my club receive? +

All clubs delivering Slam Jam will receive full support from Basketball England including;

  • training for up to five staff on how to successfully deliver Slam Jam
  • access to our Slam Jam booking tool to add your programme and manage participants
  • a starter kit, including coaching resources, activator kit and balls
  • marketing support, including promotional materials that complement our wider national marketing campaign
How long is each Slam Jam programme? +

Slam Jam is a six week programme (one session per-week).

What do I need to deliver Slam Jam? +

Activators will need to complete a Slam Jam activator course (which can be done online and is included in the affiliation fee).

Additionally, they will also require an in-date DBS and safeguarding children qualification, as well as be emergency first aid trained.

What is the Slam Jam activator course? +

The Slam Jam activator course is a mandatory training session all activators must complete prior to running the programme. The course is all online, takes no longer than two hours and can be completed in the learner's own time.

By the end of the course, you will:

  • understand the elements of a Slam Jam programme and timeline for creating a course
  • develop knowledge of the skills required to deliver sessions on court
  • learn how to deliver sessions to engage and excite participants

Do I need any qualifications? +

No. Slam Jam can be delivered by coaches, teachers, clubs, organisations or multi-sports coaches. Activators will need to attend a Slam Jam activator course (included in the affiliation fee).

Additionally, you will also require an in-date DBS and safeguarding children qualification, as well as be emergency first aid trained.
