GB v Turkey: Newcastle host July World Cup Qualifier - tickets on sale

GB Men will look to build on their superb home form in July as they return to Newcastle for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 qualifiers.

GB have claimed back-to-back wins at the Vertu Motors Arena in their last two outings – toppling European heavyweights, Germany and Greece – and the venue will host the World Cup Qualifier versus Turkey on Sunday 3 July (4pm), with tickets now available to purchase here via the Newcastle Eagles Box Office.

It will be the first game for GB Men’s Assistant Coach Marc Steutel since being confirmed as the Newcastle Eagles’ new Head Coach for the 2022/23 BBL season.

Steutel, who has been Acting GB Head Coach in recent times and filled the role with distinction. He and several of the players have previously praised the support on Tyneside, with the team holding a 100% win record in front of two sell-out crowds in the north east.

GB Men’s captain Dan Clark said:

“We’ve had incredible support in Newcastle, securing great wins against Germany and Greece at the Vertu Motors Arena, and we’re going to need the British Basketball community to be our sixth man again in July with a huge game against Turkey – a true heavyweight of international basketball.

“Our form and results over the last few years have been excellent and the wins we’ve had at Newcastle have been some of the biggest highlights.

“The support we’ve had at our home games has been key and has really pushed us to victory. We’re excited to play in Newcastle again, in front of what is always a brilliant crowd, who can help us secure an important result for our World Cup qualifying campaign.”

The Turkey fixture will be GB’s fourth and final qualifier in the campaign, coming off the back of an outing to Greece which will take place earlier in the window.

GB are in a historic run of form, with 12 wins in their last 15 outings proving to be the most successful stretch of results in the team’s history.
