NBL1 Recap: Week 23 (3/4 April 2021) - live streams, stats and more

Week 23 in now in the books, with Easter wins for Newcastle, Solent, Worthing and Thames Valley.

Victories for the Cavs and Kestrels keeps the excitement for next Sunday's clash between the top two sides well and truly alive, with that fixture now pivotal in deciding this year's regular season title.

There's a recap of all the past weekend's action below, and each result is also clickable if you wish to view the live stats.

Thunder keep on rolling

Worthing Thunder (7-10) 97-78 Leicester Warriors (5-12)

Worthing grabbed their third win in a row as they knocked off Leicester Warriors 97-78.

In another solid team performance, the hosts dished 27 assists as they led the contest for all but the opening moments of the first quarter.

American Howard Crawford was the pick of the bunch for Worthing, putting together a 28 point, 16 rebound double-double to finish with an efficiency rating of 40.

Max Richardson (19pts, 10reb), Tom Ward (16pts, 9reb, 8ast) and Jack Sunderland (13pts) also played well for Thunder.

Leicester's recent uptick in form has seen the Midlands side move up the standings, but the Warriors have now lost two in a row and finish the season with tough matchups against Loughborough and Solent.

Mo Williams has been in impressive form since he joined the club but the forward could only manage 10 points on a 4-15 shooting performance here.

That left the visitors to be paced by Leon Henry (25pts) and Martyn Gayle (21pts), as both guards played well in defeat.

Elsewhere this weekend

Leaders Thames Valley Cavaliers (15-1) stayed ahead of the pack as they beat Bradford Dragons (6-10) 97-85.

Visitors Bradford did give TVC a scare as they led by six early in the second half, but by the end of the third the Cavs had built a 15 point advantage as they eased to victory behind Taylor Johnson's 29 point outing.

Second place Team Solent Kestrels (14-1) kept the heat on Thames Valley though as they defeated Derby Trailblazers (12-5) 89-60.

Playing without Orlan Jackman due to injury, Solent took the opening quarter 25-8 to leave their opponents with an uphill battle to chase the game.

Travis Charles once again impressed for Solent, closing on 25 points and 15 boards. Malcolm Smith top scored for DTB with 22.

Finally, Team Newcastle University (11-6) used a 32-13 third quarter to overcome Oaklands Wolves (4-14) 96-76.

With Ronald Blain (29pts), Jack Cork and Brandon Federici (23pts each) all impressing for Newcastle, Jordan Santiago's 22 point outing would be in vain for the visitors as they sit one from bottom of the D1M standings.
