Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I first started playing basketball at 16 after my football team collapsed. I have always had a passion for sports and so continued this through my school studies into university. I now work in mental health as an exercise professional after 2 years as a personal trainer.
What brought you to the NBL in the first place?
I started playing in the NBL when I was 16, where I first learnt how to play basketball ‘properly’. I continued this through to under 18’s before heading off to university. When I relocated to Brighton, I found it harder to find a team so I started playing local league. Luckily for me the team progressed enough to enter into the NBL league.
What was your first impression of the NBL? How has that changed?
I have always enjoyed playing in the NBL, it allowed me to travel to places I never would as a kid and also allowed me to play at a new level, giving me lots more opportunity to perform. It is very well organised and it’s easy to check up on the league and fixtures.
What was your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge was probably re-entering the NBL in a women’s league after having a break from NBL. Not knowing what the level would be like and having to step up regardless.
What changes have you noticed in yourself since joining NBL?
I am now constantly looking to improve and do my best for the team. I look forward to the weekend. I genuinely am enjoying basketball again, which is always what I wanted.
What are you working on right now, what are your current goals?
I have learnt so much this year, and this is just the start. I want to be the best that I can be for my team. I am already thinking about next year, wanting to get stronger and fitter before the season even begins.
What is your favourite NBL memory?
Getting back on that first away game minibus just like when I was younger, experiencing everything I enjoyed all over again.
What advice would you give someone who is just getting started in basketball?
Basketball is a game that you mature in. It’s all about decision making. Think about your team and not just yourself. Don’t be afraid because you lack skill, that will come.
What do you like to do outside of basketball?
I love my day job, I love improving lives with health and fitness. I get the opportunity to take part in all kinds of sports such as badminton, football, dodge ball etc whilst helping others improve their health and lifestyle.
Finally, who is your favourite British basketball player and why?
All the players on my team. I can't choose. They are the people that I rely on 3 times per week.
